Cervical ripening. Cytotec. Cervadil. Foley bulb. Pitocin. Epidural. More Pitocin. Decelerations. Fetal distress. C-section. Sound scary? Well, there are some very real, tangible trends in modern American maternity care that anyone who’s being honest will acknowledge. One is known to many as the “Cascade of Interventions” and that list of things at the beginning includes a lot of the possible elements of this cascade. Think of it as the snowball effect. Once it starts, it’s hard to stop. Today I wanna talk to you about it in a little bit different format than usual to help you understand why you want to avoid it if at all possible. Spoiler alert — avoiding an unnecessary induction is the biggest thing you can do to stay off of this roller coaster.
